Generally, Customs registration can be done where the information regarding importation of counterfeit goods is presented to the Fair Competition Commission (FCC) by the trademark owners themselves. The same information will then be forwarded to the Customs office which will seize containers of counterfeit goods upon their arrival at the port and notify the FCC. The FCC together with the agents of trademark owners will inspect the goods in order to verify whether the goods are counterfeit or not.

General Information

Currently, it is not possible to obtain design protection through submitting a national application in Tanzania. Tanzania is a member of ARIPO and design protection can be obtained through filing an application through ARIPO designating Tanzania. There is no national law in Tanzania which specifically provides for design protection via ARIPO and there is therefore uncertainty in terms of whether or not industrial design protection can be achieved in Tanzania through an ARIPO design application.
